Engineers Australia Skills Migration Assessment
Engineers Australia is the designated assessing authority for engineering occupations and provides skills assessment services for migration purposes to those engineers who wish to apply for either a permanent or temporary Australian visa..
If you wish to have your skills and qualifications assessed by Engineers Australia for migration purposes, there are three occupational categories available that you are required to meet the elements of competency for your nominated category. Receiving a positive assessment from Engineers Australia is a major step to achieve your migration goal.
The three occupational categories are the following:
- Professional Engineer: The minimum required academic qualification is to have qualification(s) assessed as equivalent of an Australian 4 years Bachelor degree or higher degree in engineering
- Engineering Technologist: The minimum required academic qualification is to have qualification(s) assessed as equivalent of an Australian 3 years Bachelor degree in engineering
- Engineering Manager: The required academic qualification is generally a bachelor degree or higher in engineering or in an engineering related field.
Engineers Australia Pathways for Migration Skills Assessment
There are five pathways available for migration skills assessment for your engineering degree:
- Australian Engineering Qualifications: If you are a graduate of an accredited Australian Engineering program.
- Washington Accord Qualifications: If you are a graduate of an accredited professional engineering program from any full signatory countries to Washington Accord.
The current signatory countries to Washington Accord are Australia - Canada - China - Chinese Taipei - Hong Kong China - India - Ireland - Japan - Korea - Malaysia - New Zealand - Russia - Singapore - South Africa - Sri Lanka - Turkey - United States - the United Kingdom - Pakistan – Peru.
The minimum academic requirements for an assessment via the Washington Accord are qualifications which are broadly comparable to an Australian 4 year bachelor degree in engineering. The occupational outcome of your assessment generally reflects the title and/or content of your degree.
In general, qualifications accredited or recognised by other signatories are recognised by each signatory as being substantially equivalent to accredited or recognised qualifications. - Sydney Accord Qualifications: If you are a graduate of an accredited professional engineering program from any full signatory countries to Sydney Accord.

- Dublin Accord Qualifications: If you are a graduate of an accredited professional engineering program from any full signatory countries to Dublin Accord.

- Competency Demonstration Report ( CDR): If your qualification is either not Accredited or it is from a non-Accord listed country, you need to apply under Competency Demonstration Report (CDR).
The CDR assessment is based primarily upon the undergraduate qualification and demonstrated graduate competencies.
Applicants need to provide documentary evidence of both the core technical engineering knowledge and the demonstrated application of that knowledge in the nominated occupation.
Current Processing Time for MSA applications
The processing time for standard MSA applications for non-accrdited qualifications is 9 weeks and for Accredited Australian and Accord qualifications is 7 weeks. English Language Competency Requirement
All applicants applying to have their skills assessed by Engineers Australia are required to provide evidence of their English language competency through one of the following tests:
- IELTS (General or Academic version)
- TOEFL iBT®
- PTE ACADEMIC

The test results must not be more than 2 years old at the time your application is submitted.
English Test Exemptions:
The following applicants may be exempt from the requirement to provide an English language test:
- Applicants who have completed an Australian undergraduate engineering qualification or a 2 year Masters degree (92 weeks full time) or PhD program at an Australian university.
- Applicants who are native English speakers. A native English speaker is a person who lived and was educated (primary, secondary and tertiary education) in the country where the official language is English: Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada (excluding Quebec).
