Medical Board of Australia Migration Assessment
Medical Board of Australia ( MedBA) is the designated authority for many International Medical Graduates ( IMGs) or Overseas Trained Doctors (OTD) and will determine whether they are eligible for registration via an approved assessment pathway .
All applicants for medical registration must meet a range of requirements to become eligible for registration such as the educational qualifications and work experience. The work experience should be at a professional level and closely related to the nominated occupation for migration purposes.
IMGs are required to be registered as a medical practitioner in Australia if they are planning to migrate to Australia through Skill Migration Program or Employer Sponsored Visas.
International medical graduates (IMGs) or Overseas Trained Doctors (OTDs) whose medical qualifications are awarded from a medical school outside of Australia or New Zealand and who are seeking registration to practise medicine in Australia must provide evidence of eligibility to undertake one of the following assessment pathways:
- Competent Authority pathway
- Standard pathway
- Specialist pathway
The assessment process assesses the knowledge and clinical skills of IMGs seeking to qualify for medical registration in Australia.
Australian Medical Council (AMC)
The AMC is the accreditation authority for the medical profession. One of its roles is to assess the knowledge, clinical skills and professional attributes of IMGs seeking registration to practise in Australia via the Standard Pathway.
All International Medical Graduates, irrespective of registration pathway, must apply to the AMC for primary source verification of their medical qualifications.
