Installs, maintains and repairs electrical wiring, electrical equipment and electronic components used on marine vessels.
Typical tasks and duties
Marine Electrician may perform the following tasks:
- installing electrical equipment and electronic components on marine vessels
- using test equipment to locate electrical and electronic faults
- removing and replacing defective electrical assemblies and components
- connecting powered vessel equipment and accessories to suitable electrical supplies
- testing and replacing control systems, alternators, generators, regulators and starter motors
- installing or repairing navigation, lighting and other marine electrical systems
- repairing wiring and replacing items such as fuses, lamps and switches
