Occupation details and duties
Trains and supervises recreational divers and, where applicable, underwater-photography participants, with a focus on safe diving operations and tourism experiences on the Great Barrier Reef.
Typical tasks and duties
Diving Instructor (Tourism or Photography) may perform the following tasks:
- providing recognised open-water scuba instruction or underwater-photography instruction
- supervising qualified divers and taking tourists on recreational reef dives
- checking, maintaining and preparing dive equipment before use
- applying dive risk-management, workplace safety and relevant code-of-practice requirements
- maintaining first-aid and rescue equipment and responding to diving emergencies
- supporting general vessel or dive-trip operations under the direction of the vessel captain
- providing customer education and promoting responsible Great Barrier Reef tourism
