Occupation details and duties
Promotes science in tourism by interpreting marine environments and associated research for visitors, and may also support reef monitoring, marine education and environmental research activities.
Typical tasks and duties
Marine Environment Interpreter may perform the following tasks:
- delivering marine-biology and environmental presentations to visitors
- conducting guided snorkelling or diving experiences that include marine interpretation
- providing educational interpretation during marine-life or reef activities
- presenting climate-change and reef-health information in line with approved messaging
- training or mentoring tourism guides in marine interpretation and reef-health practices
- supporting research organisations with sampling, monitoring, data collection and marine-science technology
- conducting environmental surveys and preparing observations or reports for marine management and research
