Occupation details and duties
Harvests tropical rock lobster in northern Queensland waters, typically diving from a dory associated with a mother vessel and handling live product under strict safety and quality requirements.
Typical tasks and duties
Northern Rock Lobster Fisherman may perform the following tasks:
- diving to collect tropical rock lobster using approved surface-supplied air equipment
- checking and maintaining diving equipment, air supply and dory operating systems
- communicating with the dory operator and maintaining lookout and dive-safety procedures
- handling, grading, storing and transferring live or processed lobster to quality requirements
- performing routine preventative maintenance on dories and vessel equipment
- maintaining vessel, catch and dive records as required
- assisting with mooring, vessel maintenance and safety-management procedures
