Civil Engineering Draftsperson prepares detailed drawings and plans of electrical installations and circuitry in support of Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists. Registration or licensing may be required.

Civil Engineering Draftsperson typically do the following tasks:

• preparing sketches, charts, tabulations, plans and designs for civil engineering works such as drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads, airports, dams, bridges and other structures
• performing and directing fieldwork and laboratory testing
• interpreting work assignment instructions, applying appropriate procedures and selecting equipment
• collecting and analysing data, and carrying out computations
• estimating material costs and ensuring finished works are within specifications, regulations and contract provisions
• inspecting civil engineering works, and organising and supervising maintenance and repair work
• conducting field and laboratory tests of construction materials and soils, and collecting data for traffic surveys

There are two assessing authorities designated to conduct the skills assessment for an applicant who wishes to migrate to Australia as a Civil Engineering Draftsperson, Vetassess and Engineers Australia. The applicant can make a skills assessment application to any of them. However, each assessing authority has its own criteria.

Vetassess

Civil Engineering Draftsperson is classified as Group C occupations by Vetassess. The criteria for skills assessment of Group C occupations are the following :

• Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level with a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
• Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level with an additional qualification at least AQF Certificate IV in a highly relevant field of study and at least one year of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years; Or
• Qualification(s) assessed at least AQF Diploma level without a highly relevant field of study and at least two years of post-qualification highly relevant employment in the last five years;

According to Vetassess, if you have pre-qualification employment and if all of your employment is before your qualification assessed at the AQF diploma level), three years of highly relevant employment in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment completed in the last five years.

Engineers Australia

The second assessment authority for this occupation is Engineers Australia and depending on your circumstances, there are five pathways available for migration skills assessment of your engineering degree.

You are required to receive a positive assessment for your qualifications and work experience from Engineers Australia if you are planning to migrate to Australia through skill migration program.

All applicants applying to have their skills assessed by Engineers Australia are required to provide evidence of their English language competency by sitting for an English language test unless exempted.
